Cardinals CB Justin Bethel‘s 2017 base salary was reduced from $4.5 million to $2 million and becomes an unrestricted free agent next year. According to Ian Whetstone.

His agent confirmed the news to Fox Sports 910.

Bethel, 26, is a former sixth-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2012. He played out his rookie contract before signing a four-year, $15.66 million contract that included $9 million guaranteed with Arizona back in 2015.

Bethel was scheduled to make $4.5 million and $5 million in base salaries in the final two years of his contract.

Bethel was dealing with a foot issue missed the entire off-season workouts after coming off surgery, and he didn't appear to be healthy the majority of the season, flashed in the last two games.

In 2016, Bethel appeared in all 16 games for the Cardinals and recorded 39 tackles; one interception returned for a touchdown, a forced fumble and six pass defenses.
