Cardinals Ink RB David Johnson To Extension

On the eve before kicking off the 2018 regular season, the Arizona Cardinals are locking up star running back David Johnson.  The 26-year-old signs a three-year deal which keeps him in Arizona through the 2021 season.  Ian Rapoport reports the deal is worth $39-million with $30-million guaranteed and could reach $45-million.

Johnson rushed for 1,239 yards, 16 touchdowns and added 879 receiving yards and four scores in 2016.  He suffered a season-ending wrist injury in the 2017 season opener against the Indianapolis Colts.  The Cardinals selected Johnson in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft out of Northern Iowa.

He is expected to the focal point of the Cardinals offense under new head coach Steve Wilks.  The Cardinals open the season at State Farm Stadium against the Washington Redskins on Sunday.
