Sun Devil hockey player lights up a Gopher with massive (illegal) check

Arizona State's NCAA hockey team is only in its fourth season and they are on the verge of their first ever postseason berth. ASU wrapped up its regular season this weekend in Minnesota & unfortunately dropped both games of their season ending series to finish with a record of 21-12-1.

The biggest story line coming from Minnesota is the health of leading goal scorer Johnny Walker, who missed both games against Minnesota but he story that is getting the most buzz though is Arizona State defenseman Jacob Wilson throwing down one of the nastiest hits you have seen all season.

Wilson was promptly ejected for the hit to the head of Minnesota's Sampo Ranta.

It was clearly an illegal check and the refs made the right call to hand Wilson a game misconduct for contact to the head.

ASU lost the game 5-2.

Next up for Arizona State? The waiting game.

They will wait until selection Sunday March 24 if they will make program history with a national tournament bid.
