With the number two overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft, the Arizona Diamondbacks selected Druw Jones - a Georgia high school outfielder and son of Atlanta Braves All-Star centerfielder, Andruw Jones.
Arizona had set their eyes on Jones, 18, for a while and believe he possesses the traits to be a five-tool player in the majors.
He was named the Georgia High School Player of the Year.
The Baltimore Orioles drafted Jackson Holliday, a high school shortstop, number one overall. Holliday is the son of Matt Holliday, an All-Star outfielder.
This was the first time in the Major League Baseball Draft era that the first two selections were sons of former big leaguers.
The Diamondbacks also selected Landon Sims, a right-hand pitcher from Mississippi State with the 34th overall pick.
Then in the second round took first baseman, Ivan Melendez, a right-hand hitting slugger from the Texas Longhorns. Melendez, nicknamed the Hispanic Titanic, was named the 2022 Golden Spikes Award winner.
