Lavar Arrington: āDoes Deshaun Watson wanna play?? I guess he canāt say he doesnāt want to play because then theyād probably be able to go after his money, but does he wanna play?? // Heās basically the one reporting on his health to the media which I find peculiar. // He has maybe single-handedly ruined the opportunity of any other player EVER, EVER, EVER getting a guaranteed contract. // I donāt think he wants to play anymore. I think weāve seen the last of Deshaun Watson. And heās going to play, heās going to stay on the roster... What Iām saying is youāre not going to see an elite-level caliber quarterback ever again out of him. I just donāt see it.āĀ
Brady Quinn: āAs long as he just eeks this thing out for the next five years... If he plays bad enough, they can cut himāthey still owe him $230 million. // Itās kind of similar thing to this... You get a kid who gets a trust-fund, $230 million. Heās like āHEY, YOU WANT TO GO OUT AND GET A JOB?ā, heās like āNot really. Nope, Iāve got $230 million coming, Iām good.ā Thatās what it kind of feels like. Itās human nature... If you won the lotto and you end up netting $230 million, youād probably be like āyeahhh, Iām good. Iām probably not gonna do this anymore.ā The trust-fund baby is just chilling. // I was talking to folks before the season and they were trying to convince me heās a top 5 quarterback. I was like ātop 5 when??ā At what point did you think he was? Was it the 4-12 season when he put up great stats, a lot of that in garbage time?... Was THAT the year you saw that? I donāt know that he had ever at any point in time during his career been a top 5 quarterback. But that was their tagline - āTOP 5 QUARTERBACK! TOP 5 QUARTERBACK!ā Heās not a top 5 quarterback, heās never been a top 5 quarterback, so not sure where you get that from. Now youāve incentivized him to NOT play because heās just been paid. The whole situation is incredibly frustrating as a Browns fan. Itās incredibly frustrating as a former Browns player because they donāt need to do much more at the quarterback spot in order to make a run because their defense is so good. I know he was good in Houston, but I think you can contend 'was he really up there amongst the top?' [quarterbacks in the league] I donāt think it was ever the case. The year he led the league in yards, if you really dissect through some of that, a lot of that stuff came in blowout losses. On the season heās basically getting paid a little over $500,000 per completion.āĀ
Watch former NFL players and studio hosts Brady Quinn and LaVar Arrington on Fox Sports Radioās ā2 PROS & A CUP OF JOEā with co-host Jonas Knox, discuss Deshaun Watsonās rapidly deteriorating playing career that has seen him go from one of the most talented quarterbacks in the NFL to perhaps the most comically overpaid athlete in history.Ā
Watch the segment above as Quinn compares Watson to a ātrust-fund babyā with little desire to continue advancing his career, and details why Watson wasĀ never even that good in the first place. Arrington wonders if Watson's mysterious injury status as an idle player could put into question whether Watson legitimately wants to continue playing football as a starting QB, granted his $230 million guaranteed fortune awaits him as long as he doesnāt retire.
