Newly signed Arizona Cardinals place kicker Cole Murphy is showing off his power. Chris Sailor Kicking on Twitter tweeted a congrats to Murphy on his latest NFL opportunity along with a video of him destroying a pigskin.
The Syracuse product kicks the football off into a chain link fence which is several yards behind the goalpost. Quick math. NFL kickoffs are from the opposite 35-yard-line, plus 10 yards of endzone and a few feet to the fence. Murphy kicked that ball nearly 80 yards. Or in Napoleon Dynamite's uncle Rico's estimation, over those mountains.
Despite being able to pound footballs into the ether, Murphy hasn't caught on with any teams during his brief professional career. Before signing with the Cardinals, the two-time Lou Groza semi-finalist was released by the San Diego fleet of the AAF. Murphy is Syracuse's all-time leader in field goals.
Last season the Cardinals used three kickers including former Arizona State standout Zane Gonzalez and the ageless Phil Dawson.
