The Arizona Coyotes announced this afternoon that General Manager John Chayka has quit his position as GM.
The statement reads:
"John Chayka has quit as the General Manager and President of Hockey Operations of the Arizona Coyotes.
"The Club is disappointed in his actions and his timing as the Coyotes prepare to enter the NHL's hub city of Edmonton, where the team will begin post-season play for the first time since 2012. Chayka has chosen to quit on a strong and competitive team, a dedicated staff, and the Arizona Coyotes fans, the greatest fans in the NHL. "
The club also announced that former NHL player and assistant GM Steve Sullivan will assume the interim duties of the team's General Manager position.
Sullivan played more than 1000 games in his NHL career, including 33 for the then Phoenix Coyotes in 2012-13. He has been a part of the Coyotes front office since joining the franchise as a development coach in September of 2014.
The Arizona Coyotes recently departed for Edmonton where their season will resume on Thursday.
Their first and only exhibition game will be on Thursday night against the Las Vegas Golden Knights with pre-game coverage beginning at 6:30 PM on Fox Sports 910.
Their best of five Stanley Cup Qualifier series against the Nashville Predators begins on Sunday, August 2nd with coverage beginning at 10:30 AM Phoenix time on Fox Sports 910.
