CFB Week 5 Picks

October is quietly one of the best months of the year. It packs a punch other than just celebrating Halloween.

I won’t get lazy either and rant about the gross Pumpkin Spice Latte hype. Although, I am pretty sure Starbucks brings the PSL back to their menu in September every year.

Coffee nonsense aside, the college football season might be the second best part about this month.

Conference play begins. Heisman candidates are budding. The one alumni who blacks out at the tailgate because he loses all inhibitions when he steps foot back on campus.

At this point of the season, the true identities of each program begin to unfold. Teams contending for a conference title arise.

If you tailed my picks last week, you’re welcome.

(4-0)

Record to date: (7-1-5)

 Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.

Oklahoma vs TCU (+5.5)

The Sooners were embarrassed last week against a hungry Kanas State team. TCU will attempt to do the same. The spread on this game was as high as a touchdown and low as 5.

I expect Oklahoma to win this game but not in a convincing fashion. The Wildcats gave Brett Venable’s team a black eye that’ll leave them woozy on the road. This is Sonny Dykes first Big 12 opponent. Texas Christian literally has three versatile QBs on the roster that could give OU’s sketchy defense a headache. TCU +5.5. Lots of scoring in this one.

Navy (+14) at Air Force Academy

I love the triple option. Sheer entertainment when executed correctly. Dipping into these games is like finding an old iPod and listening to certified bangers from middle school.

There is no secret as to why the under is such a reliable bet when these teams play. Air Force runs the ball 89.1% of the time - they sit atop college football in that category.

I trust Navy's defense which sees this offense every day in practice. The books are expecting AFA to dominate. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Midshipmen hops out to an lead early. The total is 38.5 points. If you want to parlay the under (41-9-1 since 2005) and Navy +14, I’m sure you’d get good odds.

Oregon State vs Utah (-10.5)

Kyle Whittingham brings consistency to the Utes program like the neighbor on your street that has their Halloween decorations or Christmas lights up before anyone else. Utah lost star tight end Brant Kuithe to a torn ACL. They still have an aggressive OL that can win in the trenches.

I bet heavily on Oregon State to cover last week against USC. They handled business but were physically taxed after a rock fight and struggled versus the run. Laying 10.5 with the Utes.

Iowa State (-3.5) vs Kansas

I couldn’t be happier for Kansas FOOTBALL fans. What a time to be in Lawrence.

Imagine if you surveyed Jayhawks season ticket holders on January 1, 2022, and told them their football team would be (4-0) exactly nine months later. 100 percent of them would emphatically agree!

It takes onions to make that kind of investment and I salute them for it. Jalon Daniels is must-watch TV and is being discussed as a Heisman finalist.

Unfortunately, all good things come to an end. This is the toughest test of the season for Kansas from a defensive standpoint. It hurts but Iowa State (-3.5) might bite me later.

It’s officially SpookySZN which means a few events will occur during the tenth month of the year.

The 27th Michael Meyers film will be released soon. Aubrey Drake Graham’s birthday party. Oh yeah, and the barista horror stories from idiotic customer drink modifications.

Here’s some other idiot’s modified (betting) order:

Arkansas (+17)

Purdue (+10)

Kentucky-Ole Miss (u55)

Oklahoma State (+2.5)

Cal ML (+155)

USC (-24.5)
