Oh sure, there are aero changes in NASCAR now… well, for Atlanta (last week) and Las Vegas (this weekend). But for Phoenix next week, it’s back to 750 hp, baby! So seven time NASCAR Cup champ Jimmie Johnson schooled we Freaks on the good and bad of the aero and power differences of the cars post Daytona… and he did so after attending school himself. Yes, Johnson went back to school on Thursday in Avondale, Arizona to speak to students about the importance of technology in racing and precisely how they can begin to formulate their future careers NOW via something as ‘simple’ as math. Jimmie’s favorite subject when he was in K-12? Suffice it to say numbers were key for him not only in school, but also with the translation they provided for a sport (and at the time a hobby and a get-away that was a blast) that he grasped with the utmost passion.
Yet in typical Freak fashion, we went further with the multi time champ. We’ve been covering motorsports since we were born, to be perfectly honest… and when it comes to JJ, it has frequently bothered us that folks consider him to be ‘vanilla.’ Quite frankly? He’s not.
Enjoy these few minutes with Jimmie discussing family pick up games in the driveway and, well, what he would possibly prefer(?) to be doing at ISM Raceway instead of racing. Yea, you be the judge. But me and my friends will saddle up alongside him when he’s ready to do so.
