Daniel Jacobs is fighting for a title on Saturday, but at one point he was fighting for his life. He was just 24 when he started to feel weak and could barely walk in between training for his next fight. At one point he needed a cane then a walker to be able to get through his day. Then came a visit to a doctor and a diagnosis of osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer.
Jacobs needed surgery and radiation treatments to beat the thing that nearly killed him and has unfortunately taken the lives of so many others. Jacobs was back in the ring 17 months later.
Eight years later Jacobs is now facing the second toughest fight of his life in Las Vegas against one of the world’s most popular boxers, Canelo Alvarez. Jacobs comes in as the underdog at +375 but let’s be honest that you’ll be rooting for him.
