Torey Lovullo shouldn't be blamed for Dbacks woes when they're rebuilding

You can hear the whispers about Torey Lovullo from the twitter-verse. Those people are dead wrong but here are some of their wrong opinions about the Dbacks manager.

These Dbacks fans are referring to the two-game series on the road in LA where the Dbacks lost on two straight walk-offs and two blown saves from closer Greg Holland. The thing is what else is Torey supposed to do? He has no good options in the bullpen. Here are some stats:

  • The Dbacks are 16th in MLB in bullpen ERA
  • The only relievers under a 3.00 ERA over the last 30 games are Yoshi Hirano, Andrew Chafin & Yoan Lopez
  • Greg Holland’s ERA over his last 10 games is over 7

What else can Torey do if that is what he’s working with? We have to remember what happened to this team in the offseason. The Dbacks basically signaled that a rebuild was on despite never saying it publicly when they traded Paul Goldschmidt & let AJ Pollock & Patrick Corbin leave in free agency. Yet they still have a 43-45 record.

MLB Network’s Greg Amsinger joined The Drive this week and praised Lovullo for the job he has done this season.

“(Torey) has already won me over. He’s my frontrunner for NL Manager of the year for all the things I just told you. Here this guy is somehow getting his troops in order to believe they can play in October.”

Is Torey perfect? No he is definitely not. We all know he can be too loyal to his players and that has backfired at times but to but all the blame on his for his bullpen walking five Dodgers in a row is ridiculous.
