The Los Angeles Clippers are the new flashy toy. They're the new Beanie Baby. They're the new gaming console. The Los Angeles Lakers are Old Faithful. Yes. The geyser in Yellowstone National Park that shoots water in the air every 1-2 hours. The Lakers win every decade or so. Since the 60s. When was the last time the Clippers won? Oh. That's right.
Much has changed recently. Stevie B is leading the charge for the new-look Clips. Kawhi. PG-13. I get it. Two guys who have had zero pressure on them in their career. For Kawhi? He came out of nowhere in San Antonio. With Toronto, he won a championship against the B-team squad for the Warriors. Paul George? While with Indiana....he got the "Oh he went against Lebron" excuse. When he chose OKC over the Lakers, it, once again, was Lebron's......fault?
That's everything people have been telling you. What kept Paul George from LA? The spotlight. Expectations. It's easier to play ball in smaller markets. When you see Kawhi and Paul George this year, don't expect a rise to prominence. They aren't used to it. Neither of them are leaders.
Go across Staples Center to the other locker room. The locker room of winning. Lebron? He's been in the spotlight since he was 12. Anthony Davis? Yet to be seen but has shown that he, not Kawhi or Paul George, could be the best two-way player in the NBA. Oh, and also look into the rafters. The city of Los Angeles is still a Lakers city. Remember, you can't spell Lakers without LA.
