Arizona Republic’s Bob McManaman has been quite vocal with his support toward Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson. So much so that he fired back on fans who were calling for DJ’s job just a couple of weeks ago. But in those couple of weeks, and with even fewer snaps and touches from the $39 million dollar man, has Bobby’s opinion changed? He joined us, as usual, Wednesday night, where he went as far as to suggest a few Mac missiles, too.
Paraphrased: There are some things that I totally feel are not being discussed… I do feel that a running back, five or six years in the league, who gets injuries, including three in one year (this year) does matter… and I think running backs do break down… and sometimes they come back and sometimes they don’t… we’ll see what happens… they say he’s still part of the offense, but it doesn’t look like he’s going to be.I don’t think we’ll see DJ again much this year.
On the locker room vibe, and how the other DJ factored in:
Paraphrased: They don’t want anything to rock the boat… so when people talk up in meetings or say something and call other people out, that maybe they don’t think is warranted, they’re gonna get rid of them… DJ was a helluva player, a great leader… but maybe they didn’t like the way he called people out and he did that a lot, he called out last year’s coaching staff, he called out management, they didn’t like it, they got rid of him… I would imagine the same thing happened with Crabtree… I’m not saying it’s right, but I think that’s what they are doing.
On future player contracts and potential problems sooner than later:
Paraphrased: It’s something I’ve learned in recent days that Michael Bidwill is far more involved now in restructuring and extensions of contracts, and it’s slowing the processes down… they didn’t like the way it worked out with Tyrann Mathieu, they aren’t really happy with what’s going on with Patrick (Peterson) and they certainly aren’t happy with what’s going on with David since they gave him the big deal… that’s something… everyone needs to watch out for because if they don’t get those guys signed, and they don’t get the big contracts, they’re gonna have more holes to plug than you ever thought they would.
