NCAA March Madness to be played to no fans as CoronaVirus spreads

Our viewing of the NCAA Men’s and Women’s basketball tournament will look a lot different. NCAA President announced that both tournaments will be played without fans and limited to staff and family.

The NCAA decision comes after the Golden State Warriors announced they will play to no fans on Thursday, The Seattle Mariners will not play their home opener in Seattle and Ohio’s Governor has banned large gatherings including the Columbus Blue Jackets and Cleveland Cavaliers (although both teams have yet to make anything official.)

The World Health Organization declared COVID-19 aka CoronaVirus a pandemic on Wednesday. It has affected 114 countries and killed more than 4,000 people worldwide.

People are no doubt going to be angry about this but much of the world including China and Italy where the Virus has hit hardest are going into lockdown by limiting travel and movement within their respective countries.

If we can stop the spread of a virus that we still don’t know much about or the total scale of it in the United States because we have been so slow to administer testing that is reliable and that is killing people, shouldn’t we do our best to contain it? Even if you aren’t worried about it?
