Should Wade Phillips be an option to replace Vance Joseph?

The Cardinals defense has been a bit of a mess recently. Back to back losses and a rash of injuries have created quite a disaster on Cardinals twitter about the future of DC Vance Joseph. If he is on the hot seat then one former DC is throwing his name out there to get back in the league.

Wade Phillips spent three seasons with the Rams before the team decided to go in a different direction. Phillips' Rams defense was always inside the top-20 in the league and also runs a 3-4 scheme.

The Cardinals defense this season ranks 20th in DVOA, A number that looks at each and every play and if it was succesfull or not. The full explanation is available on Football Outsiders. Over the last two losses Vance's defense has allowed 57 points and over 750 yards of total offense. Vance Joseph only spent one season as a defensive coordinator before failing miserably in two season as the Broncos Head Coach. The Cardinals defense was expected to improve this season with the draft selection of Isasiah Simmons and some of the moves mad by Steve Keim but that has not been the case.

Wade Phillips has been in the NFL since the 1970s but despite his age you cannot say anything about his results. Imagine what a Wade Phillips defense might ber able to do for Chandler Jones? Budda Baker? maybe Wade Phillips is a better fit for getting the best out of Isasiah Simmons?

Not only does Wade Phillips get results he also was able to get the most out of several guys who may have been considered to be problematic. Including Ndamakung Suh, Dante Fowler Jr, Jalen Ramsey and Marcus Peters. Just look at how beloved he was in the Rams locker room

If The Cardinals decide to move on from Vance Joseph then Wade Phillips would be a great fit in Arizona alongside Kliff Kingsbury.
